HELPING MINISTRIES MOVE FORWARD

Peace In the Elevator

Jul 12, 2001 | Illustration, Scripture Memory

I recall this incident when God's word was a life-saver!

We were living in an apartment in Apple Valley (2001). I got on the elevator and it broke down. There I was, in the heat of the summer, stuck in a box with no phone and no air conditioning. After about 30-40 minutes, I started feeling as if I was running out of oxygen and I began to panic a bit. I started going through my ABC Scripture memory list. I got to the letter P: P is for Peace. John 14:27 “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

At that moment the peace of God filled my heart and I could breathe freely again! The panic was gone! Praise God for His word that is living and active (Hebrews 4:12).

I also praise God for the fire department that came to my rescue! Michelle started wondering where I was and came to look for me. Seeing that the elevator wasn't working she called out my name. It was good to hear her voice! She called the fire department and the rest is history.

I have to admit it's a fun memory. How often do you get stuck in an elevator and get rescued by fire fighters! Cool!
